About Me

Overview

I'm not really sure what I should say about myself however I'm interested in classic cars and more recently low energy home's. I have a degree in Electronic and Electrical Engineering so I've finally been inspired to use some of that knowledge to create this web site. I've spent the last 11 years of my life working in the oil and gas industry and the majority of this has been on international assignments.

I have now returned to the UK to work and live which has inspired me to undertake my latest project of renovating and extending a bungalow into a low energy home. The plan is to live in it once completed.

Work

To explain what I do for work and for people to understand is almost impossible unless they work in oil industry however I'll give it a go.

My job title is "Wireline Field Engineer" and I work for a company called "Baker Atlas". The job involves lowering a range of electronic instruments into a well on the end of an electrical cable which can be as long as 7-10Km. These instruments send data back to a computer and is used by us to try and help oil companies determine what they have drilled into and if it contains water, oil or gas.

The main reason I took my job was to earn some money while getting enough time off to travel the world. There are still lots of places I want to travel to but I've seen quite a few since I started the job. Some of the countries I've been to are Angola, Azerbaijan, Congo, Turkey, Thailand, Cambodia, Vietnam, Australia, New Zealand, Mauritania, Kuwait, Oman, UAE, South Africa, Namibia, Botswana and Zimbabwe. Obviously some of these were only for work but some were holidays in my time off.

The pictures above are of some of the different places I've worked in around the world.
