Costs
This is to show the costs for the different parts or work required to restore the Marcos GT.
My aim is to have the rolling chassis rebuilt and 100% mechanically sound for £5000 total outlay. This should be possible unless there is a major problem with the gearbox or engine. The aim is to have the car totally restored and back on the road for £8000.
Update Aug 2007: Well I seem to have spent a bit more than £5000 so far but at least I know everything is 100% and I have nearly finished the mechanical side of the car. Last big expense is going to be the exhaust!
Update Nov 2007: I'm fast approaching the £8000 budget for my car as I've spent £6818 so far. The Marcos is 95% mechanically finished and I have already bought the paint required to finish the car. All I need to do now is to find somebody to paint it.
Update Mar 2008: Well I might as well face it that I'm never going to meet my budget. My new budget is going to be £10,000. In reality the budget makes no difference to me as the car is going to be rebuilt to the standard I want. However it will probably just take longer and cost more than I originally planed.
Update Jun 2009: Well I've almost completed the restoration. I've spent over £12,500 and the only major expense left is having the interior seats and door cards recovered. The car is not 100% perfect and it will never be worth as much as I've spent on it but it will still be one of the better examples out there.
Update Aug 2009: The car is complete and in the end has ended up costing me £13606.72 This number doesn't truly represent the actual cost as I have receipts for over £2000.00 for tools, equipment and parts that I never fitted to the car. This is more than I originally planned but I finally have a car that I'm happy with. The car is also one of the better examples out there as it won 2nd prize in the concurs competition for pre 1980 cars at the 50th Anniversary Rally.
